2007–2018 · Industry roots and the YellowLite foundation
YellowLite, founded in Cleveland in 2009, grows into one of Ohio's leading solar installation firms, with more than 4,000 residential and commercial projects completed. The friction: Hands-on installation work exposes how hard solar equipment is to buy: opaque pricing, manual phone and email negotiations, fragmented supplier channels and no modern B2B e-procurement tools. 2017–2018: A marketing partnership with Germany's SecondSol, started between Jürgen Pressl and Mitch Bihuniak, leads to visits in Cleveland (May 2018) and Germany (September 2018).
March 2019 · Company formation and international joint venture
March 14, 2019: Sunhub, LLC is formed as an Ohio limited liability company headquartered in Cleveland. March 22, 2019: YellowSun LLC signs a joint venture agreement with German solar marketplace leader SecondSol GmbH. Strategic purpose: The joint venture combines SecondSol's marketplace technology and software licensing with YellowSun's U.S. market leadership, capital and distribution know-how. The first board: Azam Kazmi, Mitch Bihuniak and Stefan Wippich. 2020: The Sunhub platform goes live in North America.
March 2021 · The path to independent U.S. ownership
March 30, 2021: YellowSun, led by Azam Kazmi, proposes to buy 100% of SecondSol's interest in Sunhub. October 27, 2021: Sunhub completes its first sale. The purchase is paid in full in 2025, making Sunhub a fully independent, U.S.-owned company led by Mitch Bihuniak (Co-founder & CEO) and Azam Kazmi (Co-founder & President).
November 2022 · Executive expansion and leadership growth
November 2022: Kadeer Beg joins Sunhub as Chief Operating Officer, specializing in technology and overseeing app development, order processing, ERP integration, product development and finance.
2021–2023 · Scale and commercial growth
2022: In its first full year of trading, Sunhub's sales grow more than 1,000-fold over its first two months. 2023: New procurement customers grow 345%, repeat customers 380%, new sellers 184% and new registrations 145% over the year before.
2023–2024 · Launch of the Solar Trader Platform and tech modernization
Triples investment in proprietary software, patents and engineering. The Solar Trader Platform launches in May 2023, and the patent application is filed in August 2023. Rolls out B2B e-procurement tools: chat-based price negotiation, automated shipping estimates, Sales Portal (2024), forward selling, and coverage across PV modules, inverters, batteries and balance of system. Establishes partnerships with major global manufacturers and distributors across North America.
2025–Present · Market expansion and operational scaling
Completes independent ownership and launches the direct manufacturer program, backed by a dedicated marketing team. Manufacturer partnerships signed in 2025 are 12 times the previous three years combined, and more than 65 manufacturers now sell directly through Sunhub. Sales grow 103% in 2025 over 2024, reaching 45% above Sunhub's first full year of trading. Expands marketplace adoption across installers, C&I developers, EPCs and distributors. Adopts structured management frameworks to align long-term strategy and scale e-procurement operations nationwide.
