Our story

We didn't enter solar
to build a marketplace.

We built one because the industry needed a better way to do business. Sunhub grew out of more than 15 years of buying, selling and installing solar.

Built in solar. Built for solar.

Where we come from

Our story started long before Sunhub.

In 2009, our team started YellowLite in Cleveland to make solar more accessible to homeowners and businesses.

More than 4,000 installations later, we knew the industry from the inside: sourcing equipment, managing suppliers, chasing availability, negotiating price and getting product to the job site.

The solar industry wasn't short on products. It was short on infrastructure connecting the people who buy and sell them.

A journey, still unfolding

Sunhub journey & milestones.

  1. 2009–2018

Industry roots and the YellowLite foundation

    • YellowLite, founded in Cleveland in 2009, grows into one of Ohio's leading solar installation firms, with more than 4,000 residential and commercial projects completed.
    • The friction: Hands-on installation work exposes how hard solar equipment is to buy: opaque pricing, manual phone and email negotiations, fragmented supplier channels and no modern B2B e-procurement tools.
    • 2017–2018: A marketing partnership with Germany's SecondSol, started between Jürgen Pressl and Mitch Bihuniak, leads to visits in Cleveland (May 2018) and Germany (September 2018).
  2. 2019–2020

Company formation and international joint venture

    • March 14, 2019: Sunhub, LLC is formed as an Ohio limited liability company headquartered in Cleveland.
    • March 22, 2019: YellowSun LLC signs a joint venture agreement with German solar marketplace leader SecondSol GmbH.
    • Strategic purpose: The joint venture combines SecondSol's marketplace technology and software licensing with YellowSun's U.S. market leadership, capital and distribution know-how. The first board: Azam Kazmi, Mitch Bihuniak and Stefan Wippich.
    • 2020: sunhub.com goes live in North America under the Sunhub name, starting with buying and reselling used and surplus solar modules.
  3. 2021

The path to independent U.S. ownership

    • March 30, 2021: YellowSun, led by Azam Kazmi, proposes to buy 100% of SecondSol's interest in Sunhub.
    • 2021: Sunhub starts sourcing equipment for buyers through brokered procurement deals, and completes its first sale on October 27, 2021.
    • The purchase is paid in full in 2025, making Sunhub a fully independent, U.S.-owned company led by Mitch Bihuniak (Co-founder & CEO) and Azam Kazmi (Co-founder & President).
  4. 2022

First full year and leadership growth

    • 2022: In its first full year of trading, Sunhub's sales grow more than 1,000-fold over its first two months.
    • November 2022: Kadeer Beg joins Sunhub as partner and Chief Operating Officer, leading technology, app development, order processing, ERP integration, product development and finance.
  5. 2023

    The Solar Trader Platform launches

    • Q3 2023: The Solar Trader Platform, now Sunhub Marketplace, launches with quote, bid and buy, chat-based price negotiation with manufacturers, and Sunhub-moderated deals between verified buyers and sellers.
    • August 2023: Sunhub files its first U.S. patent application for the platform's negotiation technology.
    • Logistics, warehousing and delivery launch alongside the Trader, the start of Sunhub Fulfillment.
    • Triples investment in proprietary software, patents and engineering, built in-house.
  6. 2024

Source Center, Marketing and a year of adoption

    • 2024: Source Center launches, so buyers can post equipment they can't find and have Sunhub source it.
    • 2024: Supplier marketing services launch, giving manufacturers sponsored placements in front of active buyers.
    • August 2024: The international (PCT) patent application is filed.
    • From 2023 to 2024, order volume more than quadruples (up 345%), new platform registrations grow 145%, registered sellers 184% and marketplace transactions 20%.
  7. 2025

Sales Portal and the direct manufacturer channel

    • June 2025: Sales Portal launches, giving manufacturers and suppliers a private sales channel with CRM, order management and an online storefront.
    • Launches the direct manufacturer program, backed by a dedicated marketing team. Manufacturer partnerships signed in 2025 are 12 times the previous three years combined, and more than 65 manufacturers now sell directly through Sunhub.
    • Sales grow 103% in 2025 over 2024, reaching 45% above Sunhub's first full year of trading.
  8. 2026–Present

A connected platform for the whole trade

    • February 2026: The next-generation Sales Portal is unveiled at Intersolar & Energy Storage North America in San Diego, with private buyer-specific listings and personalized pricing.
    • March 2026: Patent protection is extended to Europe.
    • 2026: Project tools arrive: a BOM builder in Source Center, solar tools on sunhub.com and marketplace pages for all 50 states, and shipping estimates right on marketplace listings.
    • Expands adoption across installers, C&I developers, EPCs and distributors, and adopts structured management frameworks to scale operations nationwide.

The turning point

We stopped adapting.
We started building.

Sunhub began as a way to bring an existing European marketplace to North America. Operating it showed us that our market had different buyers, different suppliers and different problems.

So we took full ownership of Sunhub and started building the platform the North American solar trade actually needed.

We kept building

Every product started with a customer problem.

  • MarketplaceBuyers needed a better way to purchase available equipment.
  • Sales PortalSuppliers needed more than a listing: a way to manage customers, inventory, pricing, quotes and deals.
  • Source CenterProjects needed equipment that wasn't readily available.
  • FulfillmentTransactions needed to move from an order to a delivery.
  • Direct manufacturer channelManufacturers needed a better way to reach a fragmented U.S. market.

Today, those pieces are becoming one connected ecosystem, built on patent-pending technology.
